‘Diva’ Songs

Channel your inner diva because this week on Glee is ‘Diva’ and these songs are all powerful and fun. 🙂 We hear three songs from Santana, another smash diva-off from Kurt and Rachel and more! This episode seems to be filled with drama between Tina/Blaine, Santana/Sam and Kurt/Rachel. So here are the songs:

‘Make No Mistake, She’s Mine’ (by Barbra Streisand and Kim Carnes) sung by Santana and Sam

‘Diva’ (by Beyoncé) sung by Unique, Blaine, Tina, Kitty, Marley, Brittany

‘Nutbush City Limits’ (by Ike & Tina Turner) sung by Santana

‘Hung Up’ (by Madonna) sung by Tina

‘Girl On Fire’ (by Alicia Keys) sung by Santana

‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ (by Queen) sung by Blaine

‘Bring Him Home’ (from Les Miserables) sung by Kurt

‘Bring Him Home’ (from Les Miserables) sung by Rachel

The first song is sung by Santana and Sam so naturally, it’s about Brittany. This is like in Season 1 when Mercedes and Santana sang ‘The Boy Is Mine’ about Puck. But here, it’s not really a competition vocally because Santana is much better than Sam, in my opinion. Plus, no one even likes Bram.

Last post, I showed you the video for ‘Diva’ but this is the full song. I’m still not the biggest fan of the song, but the video and their wild outfits are pretty amusing. All the ND girls are in on this song except Sugar. Where is she? In fact, she’s not even in the choir room at the beginning. But Blaine is there instead…. :S

Santana gets two solos in this episode and ‘Nutbush City Limits’ is one of them. I have no idea what this is about or why she sings it. But her voice is amazing like always so it’s been getting good reviews from Santana fans. I’m not a huge fan of the song, though. I agree she sings it well, but it’s nothing special for me.

Tina gets another solo! OMG! She sings ‘Hung Up’ by Madonna. If you didn’t know the singer and just heard the song, you’d think it was Abba’s ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)’ because it has the same tune. I wish it was Abba’s song, because I love Abba and am patiently awaiting an Abba tribute episode. But I’m glad Tina gets another solo and she sings it very nicely. 🙂

Santana’s other solo is Alicia Keys’ new hit. If you ask me, Santana’s version is better than the original because (and this is just my opinion, don’t hate me!) when Alicia sings it, she is a bit whiney….but Santana isn’t…. It’s a bit of a weird song, though. Why is the girl on fire? Is she Katniss? Does she need help? I don’t know.

Blaine’s song is my fave song of the episode. It’s upbeat and fun and Blaine kills it (in a good way). I’ve been listening to it on repeat. “I’m a rocket ship on my way to Mars” hmmm I wonder what you may find there….a magical school, perhaps? LOLOLOL

No, it’s not a typo, Kurt and Rachel do sing the same song. They have a diva-off and I’m guessing they’re gonna combine the songs like in ‘Defying Gravity’. So here’s the question: who sang it better, Kurt or Rachel? I’m having a hard time picking. Rachel has a better voice, but Kurt sings it really well. The fun thing about these songs, and I really encourage you to try it, is open the two songs on different tabs and listen to them at the same time. You must have them timed perfectly. I did it and it’s much better that way. I’m not a huge fan of the song in the first place, but them singing it together at the same time makes it much better so try it and tell me what you think!
